Project Zugzwang

For generations, ocean exploration has played from a position of zugzwang. The deep sea demands that we move, yet the tools available have forced impossible trade-offs: depth against safety, reach against precision, ambition against cost. Every choice gave something up. Project Zugzwang exists to change the board. We are building a new generation of manned and unmanned vehicles designed so that explorers no longer have to choose between going deeper and going smarter, and so that every move beneath the surface becomes a stronger one.

Four Patents Pending

Project Zugzwang is protected by four pending patent applications developed by Cooper Wade. Together they span three areas of subsea and surface technology:

  • Autonomous submersible vehicles, systems designed to search, survey, and operate beneath the surface without a crew aboard

  • Autonomous surface vehicles, platforms designed to support and extend operations from the surface

  • Manned submersible vehicles, craft designed to carry people safely into the environments where discovery happens

Each application reflects years of engineering, field experience, and lessons learned through experience.

Why We Are Not Revealing More

Project Zugzwang remains under wraps by design. While our applications move through the patent process, we are not publishing specifications, designs, performance data, or images of the vehicles.

This discretion protects the work, our partners, and the integrity of what we will eventually share. We would rather unveil a proven system than describe an unfinished one. When Project Zugzwang is ready, it will be presented on the strength of what it can do, not what it promises.

What Zugzwang Is Built to Achieve

Without revealing how, we can share what drives the program:

  • Reach. Extending exploration to depths and conditions that conventional equipment struggles to access

  • Safety. Reducing the risk to people working in demanding underwater environments

  • Precision. Locating, documenting, and recovering with greater accuracy and care

  • Efficiency. Making serious exploration more practical, so more of the ocean can be studied and understood

The Next Move

Details of Project Zugzwang will be released as development and validation milestones are reached. Partners, institutions, and investors with a serious interest in the program may contact us to begin a conversation under a mutual non-disclosure agreement.
